Heartsmudges began as a simple belief that creativity can hold space for the parts of us that do not always fit neatly into the world.
While studying photography at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, I began to understand how powerful visual expression could be as a form of communication.
During that time I worked as a music and fashion editorial photographer and art director, where storytelling through imagery became central to my creative work.
At the same time, I began offering tuition-free art workshops for underprivileged children. Art became a language that allowed children to express themselves freely without judgment or pressure.
Years later that spirit of community support expanded through a grassroots initiative called Prescription for Love, which collected feminine hygiene products and professional clothing while helping women access employment resources and stability.
One of the most meaningful moments came when a woman I had helped reached out two years later to share that she had secured stable employment, obtained her own home, and reunited with her children.
Moments like that reinforced something I have always believed.
Life is a beautiful gift and our hearts are often smudged by the world. We all need compassion and unconditional care.
The heart that represents Heartsmudges today was painted by my own son at age one. At the time he had been flagged for early intervention due to speech delays and intense anxiety.
Covered in paint, he repeatedly tapped his finger onto the page creating the heart that now lives in the Heartsmudges logo.
Heartsmudges exists to honor that kind of expression and support families whose hearts may feel a little smudged by life.
